This weekend saw the second DBA Adult meeting take place at Burleigh Court, Loughborough. Despite the snow, everyone arrived mid morning, where we settled in to our private conference room and after introductions, conversations
We had a power point presentation of the topics that we were hoping to cover during the course of the weekend, and as the conversations and discussions flowed naturally from one topic to another, we were covering all of the topic headings without even realising it!
It was informative, fun and relaxing, and I’m sure everyone who attended will agree that it was a very worthwhile and welcomed event. Everyone said how important they felt the adult only meetings are, it was especially nice to have a more ‘grown up’ event, with adult appropriate accommodation, and excellent on site facilities for us all to use.
We discussed how the adults can support the work the charity does, and equally, how the charity can provide support for the adult patients. We also discussed the advantages of having ‘DBA experience’, and how we all feel about discussing our DBA journeys with the parents and carers of the younger DBA generation.
All in all, everyone had a thoroughly enjoyable weekend, topped off by fantastic food, brilliant company and a relaxing swim in the pool. I think the recurring theme of the weekend was ‘I’ve never eaten so much food!’.
Thank you to those that came along, all I will say now is, who’s up for the next meeting?! The more the merrier, suggestions are always welcome, we really do feel that these events are worthwhile and would encourage as many DBA adults as possible to attend.
I think all who attended this year will agree that Burleigh Court was a fantastic location and venue for the event, and we would like to thank them for providing us with a fantastic base for our get together, it would be wonderful to hear from anyone interested in any of the future meetings. If you would like to get in touch with Hayley regarding another DBA Adult meeting, send her an email.
