A huge thank you to everyone who came along to PGL Caythorpe for the 14th annual DBA UK Family Weekend and made it thoroughly enjoyable! We had around 160 people join us for some fantastic talks, activities and opportunities to chat to each other.
The weather was much more in our favour this year allowing our families plenty of free time to catch some sunshine whilst sharing their DBA journeys with each other! We were also delighted this year to have an official photographer for the Family Weekend, so a big thank you to Chris Thornton Photography for coming along, you can see some more of the fantastic pictures on the DBA UK Facebook Page here.
The children got to take part in some great activities around PGL and once again a craft session run by Leigh Bowser from The Blood Bag Project, although this time outside in the glorious weather. Please see the Blood Bag Project’s Facebook page for more information about the project and also to see the Blood Bags made by the children over the weekend.
Available below are most of the talks that took place over the weekend in case anyone needs a second chance to absorb a great wealth of information, please bear in mind these presentation are given ‘as is’ and as such no explicit medical information should be read into them without the context provided by the speaker from the Family Weekend –
Please note that anyone who attended the Family Weekend should now have had a feedback questionnaire emailed to them, if you attended the Family Weekend and do not have access to this survey, please contact Kieran Teasdale for a link to it, your feedback is very important to us and shapes the way we work.
We also had a cheque presentation from Stacey Skepper, on behalf of Jane Benson who had taken part in the London Marathon for DBA UK to raise a whopping £1945.80 (with Gift Aid included).
Something of note that came up during talks with families was reminding everyone about our presence on The Giving Machine, a website which you can shop through to all your usual internet shopping sites like eBay, Amazon, Tesco, Asda, Play.com, Sainsbury’s, Argos, John Lewis and many more! But when you go through the Giving Machine, they will give money to DBA UK for free! You can find DBA UK on The Giving Machine here.
Also worthy of mention is the new Downloads section of our website, where you can find a Just Text Giving poster (above) to print off for fundraising events so that people can easily text donations to DBA UK, simply by sending “DBAJ11 £10” to 70070. there are also other materials to support families and fundraising.
Also as per the AGM for DBA UK, a new committee was elected, the members of which can be seen here. The draft minutes for the 2014 AGM can be seen here (they will be ratified at next year’s AGM as standard).
We can’t wait to see you all next year for DBA UK’s 15th anniversary and are always happy to hear suggestions as to how we can improve, so please feel free to contact us at any time.
