We will have a programme of activities for both younger children and adults, including talks from medical professionals and break out sessions where we can get to know each other and share stories.

If you have been before, please bring your t-shirts with you, it makes for an excellent photograph! (T-shirts will also be available for sale during the weekend)

The children will be taken out during the day on a huge variety of activities with the PGL staff which may include;-

Abseiling, Aeroball, All Aboard, Archery, Ball Sports, Challenge Course, Climbing, Giant Swing, High Ropes, History Trail, Initiative Exercises, Jacob’s Ladder, Low Ropes Course, Orienteering, Problem Solving, Quad Biking, Sensory Trail, Survivor, Team Challenge Programme, Team Games, Trapeze and finally  Zip Wire!

If you would like more information about PGL Caythorpe you can find it here – http://www.pgl.co.uk/PGLWeb/Schools/Primary-schools/adventure/centres/CaythorpeCourt_activities

We will have the usual PGL staff to look after the youngest children so you can focus fully on the talks. Please note if you are bringing a baby, you will need to bring your own high chair and also baby bath due to the wet room style bathrooms. Additionally everyone will need to bring their own towels, but you do not need any bedding as this is already provided.

We would also encourage as many adult patients to come along as possible as we will be including break out sessions for you too, these can easily be located in the bar if needs be!

If you have any medical paraphernalia you use for your DBA, pumps, needles, medications, or any specialist day to day equipment to help you with basic tasks such as lock openers or elastic laces etc, please bring them along. Every part of your routine management, no matter how ‘routine’ it is to you, could be very helpful information to someone else.

Please also be sure to bring any unused or surplus fundraising equipment/merchandise and collection boxes (full or otherwise) which can be passed to our Fundraising Co-ordinator Martin Winter and Treasurer Peter Redmond respectively.

Over the weekend will also run some fundraising events and our own bar so be sure to bring some money with you for fun and games.

If you would prefer external accommodation and to head on to the site each day, you are welcome to do this, but DBA UK will not be able to cover hotel/travel costs. (Please still let us know if you intend to do this so we can manage attendance numbers correctly)

This is the nearest Travelodge (6 miles away) –

And here is a B&B located nearby (under 1 mile away) – http://www.waggonandhorsescaythorpe.co.uk/

We would love to have our biggest attendance yet for the 17th annual Family Weekend this year! Whether you’ve been before or if this will be your first, we would love to have as many DBA patients together as possible, and we can only do it if you join us.

If there are other DBA families who see the same consultants as you, please tell them about the Family Weekend and give them a copy of the invitation, it really is important to have as many people there as possible.

If you would like to come, please complete the booking form online via the link at the top of this page or email it to treasurer@diamondblackfan.org.uk or you can print out the booking form and once completed post it back to our Treasurer, Pete at the address on the form. Feel free to ask any questions you might have too!

Our Annual DBA Family Weekend is a significant cost to our charity at approximately £25,000 per year. Whilst we ask no charge of the DBA patient and immediate family, we do ask that if possible you offer some donation towards the cost of almost £160 per person. We leave this to your discretion but I’m sure you’re aware that every penny makes a difference to us. We allow up to 2 additional attendees to join your immediate family group, such as grand parents who are coming to offer child/siblings care whilst parents can concentrate on the talks without distraction. Spaces are limited so we please ask that your additional attendees have a justifiable reason for attending the weekend or a charge of £100 per person may be asked to cover some of our costs. In the event of over subscription, priority will be given to patients and immediate families.

If you have any queries about this please contact Pete at treasurer@diamondblackfan.org.uk or message him on Facebook.

Are you well organised with good communication skills and self-motivated? Can you spare a few hours a week for a good cause? Then our charity committee needs you. If you think you have something positive you can offer our charity such as finance, fundraising, marketing or IT skills, a background in health care or perhaps you’re just passionate about giving something back then please contact us for a chat. Without the commitment of our amazing team of volunteers this charity and all the life-saving support it provides simply would not exist. Contact Pete Redmond or Leisa Batkin if you think you can help.
