Family Weekend 2019 Booking Now Open

DBA UK Family Weekend 2019 booking is now OPEN!
The weekend will include the charity AGM which will be on Sunday 19th May.

This year’s DBA UK Family Weekend is being held over the weekend of the Friday 17th, Sat 18th and Sun 19th of May. As with previous years, accommodation and meals are paid for by DBA UK, but people are welcome to make voluntary donations towards this weekend if they wish, as a guide, it costs approx £120 per person to host the Family Weekend.

We will also run some fundraising events and our own bar over the weekend, so be sure to bring some change with you!

It will be held at PGL Caythorpe, which is approximately 8 miles north from Grantham or 25 miles east from Nottingham.

We will have a programme of activities for both younger children and adults, including talks from medical professionals and break out sessions where we can get to know each other and share stories.

If you have been before, please bring your t-shirts with you, it makes for an excellent photograph! (T-shirts will also be available for sale during the weekend)

The children will be taken out during the day on a huge variety of activities with the PGL staff which can include –

Abseiling, Aeroball, All Aboard, Archery, Ball Sports, Challenge Course, Climbing, Fencing, Giant Swing, High Ropes, History Trail, Initiative Exercises, Jacob’s Ladder, Kayaking, Low Ropes Course, Orienteering, Problem Solving, Quad Biking, Raft Building, Rifle Shooting, Sensory Trail, Survivor, Team Challenge Programme, Team Games, Trapeze and finally  Zip Wire!

We will have the usual PGL staff to look after the youngest children so you can focus fully on the talks. Please note if you are bringing a baby, you will need to bring your own high chair and also baby bath due to the wet room style bathrooms. Additionally everyone will need to bring their own towels, but you do not need any bedding as this is already provided.

We would also encourage as many adult patients to come along as possible as we will be including break out sessions for you too, these can easily be located in the bar if needs be!

If you have any medical paraphernalia you use for your DBA, pumps, needles, medications, or any specialist day to day equipment to help you with basic tasks such as lock openers or elastic laces etc, please bring them along. Every part of your routine management, no matter how ‘routine’ it is to you, could be very helpful information to someone else.

Please also be sure to bring any unused or surplus fundraising equipment/merchandise and collection boxes (full or otherwise) which can be passed to our Fundraising Co-ordinator Martin Winter and Treasurer Peter Redmond respectively.

If you would prefer external accommodation and to head on to the site each day, you are welcome to do this, but DBA UK will not be able to cover hotel/travel costs. (Please still let us know if you intend to do this so we can manage attendance numbers correctly)

We would love to have our biggest attendance yet for the 19th annual Family Weekend this year! Whether you’ve been before or if this will be your first, we would love to have as many DBA patients together as possible, and we can only do it if you join us.

If there are other DBA families who see the same consultants as you, please tell them about the Family Weekend and direct them to this website /  invitation, it really is important to have as many people there as possible.
